I know Joanna Wilson as one of the best-informed Christmas TV Historians on the planet, and when she promises cult classics, strange specials and outrageous oddities, you know she knows what she’s talking about.

Title: The Christmas TV Companion: A Guide to Cult Classics, Strange Specials & Outrageous Oddities
Year: 2010
Author: Joanna Wilson
Pages: 146

I had previously read Joanna Wilson’s Tis The Season TV, the bible of Television Christmas movies and specials, so I was looking forward to this book, which offers many great titles, paired and grouped in new ways, suggestions of things you’ve not seen before. And no one does things you’ve not seen before better than Joanna. My personal Christmas collection is not insignificant, but Joanna’s knowledge and references put me to shame, and her writing is always fun and seems effortless. An easy read and an entertaining one. I would never have guessed there were still so many great, odd hours of TV still to see. At some point while reading it occurred to me it was a mistake to read this book without a notepad beside me to take note of all the things I’d want to check out. If I were looking for a criticism, it might have been that there wasn’t enough room to take notes, but picking up the book again I see that the outer margins seem to have left room for just that. Darn, she thought of everything.

If you think you’ve seen it all when it comes to Christmas video, let Joanna Wilson show you how wrong you are.
