Just how many albums did the OLG put out? We may never know…

Hold the phone… there’s another OLG Christmas album? Why wasn’t I told! Apparently this one is a promo album (7″) that came out in the 1980s with seven public domain songs played at 33 1/3 on a seven inch disc.

  1. Joy to the World (1:50)
  2. O Little Town of Bethlehem (1:59)
  3. Away In A Manger (1:08)
  4. Silent Night (2:40)
  5. Hark The Herald Angels Sing (2:31)
  6. O Come All Ye Faithful (2:50)
  7. O Holy Night (Cantique De Noel) (2:22)

It’s listed as “brought to you by the Ontario Lottery Corporation”. I’d never heard of it before, and really, I should have, but it just showed up on Ebay so I bought it. I then searched and found another, so I bought that one too. It certainly not as prevalent as the other two OLG offering in the thrift shops, but maybe now that I know what I’m looking for, more versions will start to pop up.

The date is unclear, but it is noted that it was issued by the┬áMinistry of Tourism and Recreation under Hon. John Eakins, Minister, who was in the position from June 26th, 1985 to September 29th, 1987. So possibly 1985, possibly 1986 (his name wouldn’t have been on it if it was 1987). The Ebay seller I bought it from listed it as 1973, but that’s not at all likely. I suppose at some point, I’m going to end up emailing the OLG again, see if they can provide any further information…
